This small table was originally a commission for the Banks St. Coffee Table. I ordered the wood – two enormous planks of cherry from my friends at Horizon Wood Products. Gorgeous! But…wait. Both planks had a long, slow curve along their lengths. It was easy to picture the tree, standing in a cold forest, arcing gracefully to the sky. That was how the tree had grown, and it didn’t seem right to cut it square.

The table top is one piece of cherry, cut and shaped to follow the curve of the grain. The aprons below are bent-laminated to fit the two different curves of the top. The stretcher below is sawn to match the curve of the top, and because it came from the next board "below" the top, the grain follows perfectly.
